Enabling the Cooee Web SDK in your theme is a required step, not an optional enhancement. Until it is switched on, Cooee cannot collect the events it needs, and campaigns, personalisation and reporting will not work on your store.
It takes about a minute, and you only need to do it once per theme.
How to enable it
In Cooee, click Enable in Theme Editor.
Shopify's theme app editor opens. Check that your current live theme is the one selected — enabling it on a different theme will have no effect on your storefront.
Confirm the Web SDK toggle is on.
Click Save in the top right corner.
Return to Cooee. The setup status updates on its own — there is nothing else to configure.
How to confirm it is working
Back in Cooee, the setup step shows as complete once the SDK starts reporting from your storefront. If it still shows as pending after a few minutes, the most common cause is step 2 — the toggle was saved on a theme that is not your live theme.
Why this step is required
Cooee personalises your store based on what each visitor actually does. To do that it needs to see standard e-commerce events — a visitor viewing a product page, adding something to their cart, or completing a purchase.
The Web SDK is what reports those events. With it enabled, Cooee's AI engine can read each visitor's intent and decide which products or offers to show them. Without it, Cooee has no visibility into visitor behaviour on your storefront, so widgets, campaigns and revenue reporting have nothing to work from.
Will it affect my store's speed?
Near zero impact. The SDK loads asynchronously so it never blocks your page from rendering, and it is built to stay off your store's critical rendering path. For the full breakdown — async loading, lazy loading, CDN delivery and before/after PageSpeed metrics — see Page speed and performance impact FAQs.
If you change themes
This setting is stored on the theme, not on your store as a whole. If you publish a new or duplicated theme, enable the Web SDK toggle on that theme too — otherwise Cooee stops receiving events from your storefront.
