Before you start
A GA4 property with a web data stream for your store.
A Google account with the Editor role (or higher) on that property. Cooee needs it to create audiences.
The Google tag (gtag.js) on your storefront pages. Cooee sends its events through it. See Troubleshooting Google Analytics 4 to check yours.
Connect
In Cooee, go to Settings → Integrations and click Connect on the Google Analytics 4 card.
Sign in with Google and allow the permission Google shows as Edit Google Analytics management entities. Cooee uses it to list your properties and to create and archive its own audiences.
Back in Cooee, choose your GA4 property (listed under its account) and its web data stream. If the property has a single web stream, Cooee picks it for you.
Click Save.
The card now says Connected and shows the property's name and ID and the stream's measurement ID (G-…). Within a few minutes Cooee starts sending experience_impression for every live experiment your visitors are in, and experiments that go live from then on get their GA4 audiences.
Experiments that are already live when you connect don't get audiences automatically. Open each one and click Create GA4 audiences.
Choose which audiences Cooee creates
Under Create GA4 audiences automatically for on the card:
Setting | What it does |
Experiments | Cooee creates an experiment's audiences when it goes live. When unticked, create them from the experiment's page with Create GA4 audiences. |
Campaigns | Coming soon. Audiences for A/B tested campaigns. Your choice is saved now and applies once they arrive. |
Control groups | Coming soon. Audiences for your Cooee control group. Your choice is saved now and applies once they arrive. |
All three are ticked when you first connect. They decide only which audiences Cooee creates: Cooee sends experience_impression for every live experiment either way, so you can create audiences later or build your own. Ticking Experiments does not create audiences for experiments that are already live.
How audiences are named, created and archived: GA4 audiences for experiments.
Connection status
Card shows | Meaning |
Not connected | Cooee sends nothing to GA4. |
Choose a property | Google is connected but no GA4 property is chosen yet. Click Choose property. |
Connected | Cooee sends events to the chosen web stream and creates audiences in the property. |
Reconnect needed | Google no longer accepts Cooee's access. See Reconnect below. |
Change the property
Click Change property, choose another property and web stream, and click Save. Events go to the new stream within a few minutes, and experiments that go live from then on get their audiences in the new property. Audiences already created stay in the previous one, including those of experiments still running.
Reconnect
If someone removes Cooee from their Google Account's third-party connections, or the connected account loses access to the property, the card shows Reconnect needed. Cooee cannot create or archive audiences until you reconnect, though events keep reaching GA4 through your own tag.
Click Reconnect and sign in with a Google account that has the Editor role on the property. Your settings are kept. If the new account cannot see the property you chose before, choose it again.
Disconnect
Click Disconnect on the card and confirm. Cooee revokes its Google access and stops sending events within a few minutes. If you connect again later, your settings are restored.
Audiences Cooee created stay in your GA4 property, and Cooee no longer archives them. Archive the ones you no longer need under Admin → Data display → Audiences in GA4.
Removing Cooee from your Google Account's third-party connections also ends its access, but Cooee keeps sending events through your tag until you click Disconnect in Cooee.
